Yes, patience is key with many of these players, including Pirates’ top prospects Jameson Taillon and Tyler Glasnow. We also have several pitchers on this week’s list who figure to be of the “all-or-nothing” variety, but based on what we’ve seen this year, there’s real upside to be mined. The same goes for some veteran hitters, who are finally starting to get it going after slow starts.

Week 6 fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups
Rubby De La Rosa, SP, D-backs. Stuff has never been an issue for De La Rosa. Keeping the ball in the yard and pitching to lefties have been the problems. So far this year, he’s noticeably lowered his HR-rate and actually been better against lefthanded batters. An increased use of his slider and far less reliance on his changeup has also helped him raise his K-rate. Now’s the time to buy low.
Taylor Glasnow and Jameson Taillon, SPs, Pirates. June is only a few weeks away, which means the Super 2 deadline is about to pass – which means some big-name minor leaguers could get called up soon. Both Glasnow (1.64/1.03, 13.1 K/9 ratio) and Taillon (1.69/0.78, 7.7 K/9) are dominating at Triple-A and could be in the Pirates rotation in a couple weeks. Glasnow has more upside, but both could be valuable in fantasy leagues. If you want them, it’s best to be proactive – assuming you can eat a roster spot for the next two or three weeks. Some of our other Top 50 Prospects could also be making their way to the majors soon, so familiarize yourselves with that list, but Glasnow and Taillon are likely the two biggest immediate impact players unless Julio Urias can earn a rotation spot with the Dodgers.

Ketel Marte, SS, Mariners. Marte was tabbed as a preseason sleeper by many, but a slow start has left him on the waiver wire in the majority of leagues. However, the 22-year-old SS has picked it up as of late, posting a .319/.347/.511 line from May 1-12. He still isn’t walking or stealing much, but those should come along with improved overall offensive play.
