The 2005 movie adaptation of Marvel’s Fantastic Four starred Chiklis (The Shield) as The Thing, with Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as The Invisible Woman and future Captain America Chris Evans as The Human Torch. Reviews were not kind to the film, with Fantastic Four earning a critics rating of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the film was a financial success, earning a global box office of around $330,579,000. A sequel followed in 2007, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer which while considered a success didn’t earn as much as its predecessor and plans for third film in the series were cancelled.
Josh Trank attempted a franchise reboot in 2015, but FANT4STIC was reviewed even worse than the 2005 movie, standing at a low 9% Rotten Tomatoes critics rating. That would’ve been fine had the film made bank like its predecessor, but it didn’t. Trank was vocal about his displeasure with the cut that was released, taking to Twitter to blame studio interference and has since disowned the film. Currently another reboot of Fantastic Four intended to be part of Marvel Cinematic Universe is in development but no details are known beyond that.
