Surrounding the Start and Create button on the PS5 controller are three little lines, instead of something like “Start,” “Select,” or “Create.” Notably, there doesn’t seem to be any justification as to what these lines mean or why they were chosen, but given that the buttons are practically universal on controllers, it does make sense to avoid simple language here. However, some fans have noted that the lines on one of the buttons looks like the “honk” from Untitled Goose Game.

As seen below, the familiarity in the two patterns is about as noticeable as the two-tone design of the controller itself. There’s a high probability that this was unintentional, but there’s also a good chance that fans of Untitled Goose Game don’t let the “honk button” go. It may or may not be a nickname that sticks, but it’s good fodder for the plethora of PS5 DualSense controller memes out there.
These types of memes don’t carry a lot of weight, however, as the Xbox Series X itself was compared to a fridge, among other household items, upon its reveal. In other words, this is all in good fun because the design possibilities for custom or colored PS5 DualSense controllers are as plentiful as the memes themselves. It’s different from the standard PS4 DualShock 4, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Aside from the Untitled Goose Game, others have taken note that this controller looks similar to the Xbox Series X controller as well, which isn’t really a break in design for Xbox controllers.. In fact, Microsoft released an Xbox Series X GIF in response to the reveal as well, so for a variety of reasons, the DualSense is the talk of the town right now.
The PS5 releases in Fall 2020.
