According to local reports, after seeing their teammate get shoved by the fan, the Danbury players rushed to his aid where they were met by a group of angry hometown fans.

Nearly 20 police officers, including local law enforcement, county sheriff’s deputies and state police arrived on scene to sort out the situation that resulted in two Danbury players receiving tickets to appear in court for second-degree harassment. The fan who initiated the scrum also will be charged with harassment, police said.

Despite the chaos, the players were allowed to return to the ice roughly an hour after the fight, with Watertown taking the victory and advancing to the championship series against the Danville Dashers.
